A doll that’s cared for looks better, stays hygienic and lasts years longer. Most damage comes from three avoidable things: moisture left inside, dye transfer from clothes, and over-bending joints.
The core routine
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| After every use | Clean the insert or openings; dry fully |
| Weekly | Dust or wipe the body; check for stains |
| Every 2–4 weeks | Full wash; oil or powder TPE |
| Monthly | Wig wash; inspect joints and skin |
| Every few months | Deep clean; tighten loose joints; check makeup |
The full plan is in our maintenance schedule.
Cleaning basics
- Use warm (not hot) water and mild soap.
- Clean openings with an irrigation bulb or the supplied cleaning tool.
- Rinse thoroughly — soap residue causes stickiness.
- Dry with lint-free towels, then use an absorbent rod or cloth inside.
- For TPE, finish with renewal powder or a light coat of mineral oil.
What you need
- Mild, unscented antibacterial soap (or a cleaner sold for dolls and sex toys)
- Soft cloths or sponges and lint-free or microfiber towels
- An irrigation bulb (vaginal irrigator) for the openings
- Renewal powder or plain cornstarch for TPE
- A fan, a hanging kit or a towel-lined surface for drying
Washing the body
- Take off the wig, clothes, jewellery and any removable insert.
- Lay the doll on towels in the bath or shower and use lukewarm water. Keep the head and neck out of the water.
- Wash gently in small circles. Pay attention to the underarms, groin, under the breasts, feet and between the fingers and toes.
- Rinse until no soap is left; residue makes TPE sticky and can break the material down.
- Pat dry. Rubbing can damage the skin texture.
Cleaning the openings
Fill the irrigator with warm, mildly soapy water, flush each opening three or four times, then flush again with clean water until it runs clear. A removable insert is easier still: take it out, wash, rinse and dry it fully before you put it back. Using a condom makes clean-up much quicker.
Drying
Moisture left inside is how mould starts, so this is the step that matters most. Push small microfiber cloths or an absorbent drying rod into each opening, leave the openings open to the air, and let the doll dry for two to four hours in a ventilated room. A fan or a hairdryer on the cool setting speeds things up; never use heat.
Powdering (TPE only)
Once the doll is bone dry, brush renewal powder or cornstarch over the skin with a soft makeup brush. It keeps TPE soft and stops it feeling tacky. Silicone needs no powder. See TPE oil and powder for how much and how often.
Face and hair
Clean the face with a damp cloth and a little mild soap, keeping water away from the eyes and any openings, and pat dry straight away. Never submerge a head that contains electronics. Wash wigs separately in cool water with a mild shampoo and conditioner, then air-dry on a stand. Implanted hair is washed on the doll with sulfate-free shampoo and dried gently.
Removing stains
- Light stains on TPE: a paste of baking soda and water, left for 10 minutes to an hour, then wiped off and rinsed.
- Stubborn dye stains on TPE: acne cream with 5–10% benzoyl peroxide, left for several hours or overnight, then rinsed. Repeat if needed. Test on a hidden spot first.
- Silicone: a little mineral oil left for a few hours usually lifts marks; wash the area afterwards.
Prevention is easier: keep dark or new clothes, newspapers and dark bedding away from light-skinned dolls. More in removing TPE stains.
Lubricant
Use water-based lubricant only. Silicone and petroleum-based lubes break TPE down and can damage silicone too.
Care by doll type
- Torsos can be washed in a sink and dry quickly.
- Full-size dolls are best washed in the bath and dried on a hanging kit; you may want help moving them.
- AI and robotic dolls must never be submerged. Wipe them with a damp cloth, keep water away from control panels and follow the maker’s instructions.
Joints and skeleton
Move each joint gently through its range once a month, listen for creaks or grinding, and tighten loose joints if your skeleton allows it. Never force a joint past its limit. See sex doll skeletons.
Never do this
- Soak the head or neck — water can rust the neck bolt.
- Use alcohol, bleach, acetone or oil-based lube on TPE.
- Leave dark or new clothes on a light-skinned doll.
- Store the doll in direct sunlight or near a heater.
- Lift by the arms, wrists or neck.
When things go wrong
Small tears can be fixed at home. On TPE, clean and dry the area, apply a thin layer of TPE repair glue to both sides, press together for 30 seconds and let it cure before powdering. On silicone, use a silicone adhesive and hold the area closed for about 24 hours while it cures. Bigger damage is a job for the maker or a repair service. Frequently asked questions
How often should I clean my sex doll?
Clean the openings or insert after every use, wipe down the body weekly if it's on display, and do a full-body wash every few weeks or when it looks dull or sticky.
What soap is safe for a sex doll?
Mild, unscented, antibacterial or gentle body wash diluted in warm water. Avoid alcohol, bleach, acetone, oil-based products and harsh scrubs.
Can I use a hair dryer on my doll?
Only on the cool setting. Heat can deform TPE. Pat dry with a lint-free towel and let air finish the job.
Why is my doll sticky?
TPE naturally releases a little oil over time. Wash it, dry it, and apply a light dusting of renewal powder or cornstarch.
